Century brings temperature changes

To the editor:

Joel Ostun, regular Sunday morning speaker at Lakewood Church in Houston, recently spoke on memories. I am sure many of the thoughts included the global warming that has been plaguing the nation, claiming lives and causing destruction.

Though chances look slim, maybe in time temperatures will return to days when seeing a many walking down Broadway in early June wearing an overcoat brought shivers. We also saw tomato plants freeze in the middle of May. Those were the days when a little heat from the oven felt good.

The pleasant 55-degree temperature in Alaska during summer months is what Jean Thoma, beauty salon manager at the Lutheran Home, experienced when visiting her daughter. Today, with this sweltering heat, she wishes she could schedule a plane back to Alaska.

I have seen many changes during my 100 years, but, believe me, the global warming has topped them all. Who knows what weather pattern will follow? I wouldn't even try to bet. How about you?
