Penrod named Realtor of the Year for county

The Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors has named Terri Penrod, a Realtor at Coldwell Banker Hamilton Realty, as Realtor of the Year for 2002. Penrod has been with Coldwell since she was licensed in 1995. Penrod was also named Rookie of the Year in 1996 and was a top producer in every year since 1997.

Before becoming a real estate agent, Penrod managed Procter & Gamble's employee credit union from 1976 until 1994.

Woods named KRCU general manager

Southeast Missouri State University's public radio station, KRCU, has named Danny Woods as station general manager. Before this hiring, Woods served as the station's interim general manager.

Woods' duties as station manager will include overseeing staff operations and membership drives, supervision of professional station staff, administration of grants and managing the station budget.

Two doctors receive MRO certification

Karen Ryan, MD, MPH, and Dennis Straubinger, DO, MPH, have earned certification through the Medical Review Officer Certification Council.

Ryan and Straubinger are listed in the National Directory of Certified Medical Review Officers. The council was formed in 1992 to set a standard for medical review officers and recognizes competence of those physicians who have developed specialized knowledge and are proficient in the performance of the essential duties of the medical review officer.

The examination is recognized within medical and business communities and regulatory agencies as the ultimate measure of achievement for MROs. The certified medical review officer is an expert in drug and alcohol testing and the application of federal regulations to the process.

Strickland Engineering hires two new engineers

Strickland Engineering in Jackson has hired two new engineers. Ron Lange and David Lynn have been added to its civil engineering and surveying staff.

Lange is a professional land surveyor with 39 years of experience. He will be responsible for the coordination and direction of all surveying projects including project management and client communication.

Lynn is a civil engineer designer with 32 years of experience. He will be responsible for civil engineering design of residential subdivisions, commercial site developments, streets, sanitary sewers, storm sewers and preparation of storm-water management plants.

Accountant attends national conference

Certified public accountant Bill Schott, who is also managing partner of Schott & Van de Ven, recently attended The State of the Profession national conference in Phoenix, Ariz. The three-day conference was sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Presentations included accounting, consulting services, management and specialized information. Schott has been a CPA for more than 40 years. He is a professional member of the Missouri Society of CPAs and the AICPA.

Holly Thomas, CPA, CSEP, also with Schott & Van de Ven, recently completed a specialized class for family limited partnerships on saving taxes and protecting clients.

Thomas advises individuals on estate and asset-protection strategies. She has earned the designation of certified specialist in estate planning. Thomas is a member of the Missouri Society of CPAs.

Meyer Realty Co. hires new agent

Emma Franklin is a new sales associate with Thomas L. Meyer Realty Co. Franklin is originally from Poplar Bluff, Mo., but also has lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Germany. Franklin is a graduate of the American School of Real Estate and is now licensed to represent clients at Meyer Realty Co.

New jeweler joins Rogers for gold, platinum repairs

Rogers Jewelers at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park has hired Rick Wann as its newest jeweler. Wann has 10 years of experience and will perform gold and platinum repairs.
