Fourteen teams still in hunt for BCS spots

Thursday, November 28, 2002

While two of the eight spots for Bowl Championship Series games are filled, there are still 14 teams under consideration for the remaining berths.

Ohio State, co-champions of the Big Ten Conference, completed its season at 13-0 and is headed to the BCS national title game in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 3. Florida State clinched a bid as Atlantic Coast Conference champions.

Ten teams are still in the running for four conference titles that bring automatic bids -- Miami, Pittsburgh and West Virginia in the Big East, Colorado and Oklahoma in the Big 12, USC and Washington State in the Pac-10, and Arkansas, Georgia and LSU in the SEC.

The other teams in the BCS picture -- Iowa, Kansas State, Notre Dame and Texas -- are looking for at-large spots.-- AP
