Wilfred W. Ressel, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Missouri Veteran's Home.
He was born April 16, 1923, in Kelso, Mo., son of the late John and Christine Mary Diebold Ressel. On Nov. 23, 1950, he married Patsy P. Essner in New Hamburg, Mo. She preceded him in death May 27, 1997.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, having achieved the rank of sergeant. After his service in the Army, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Mr. Ressel was a truck driver for Pipkin-Boyd-Neal Meat Packing and Central Foods and was a member of Teamsters Local Union No. 574. He owned and managed numerous rental properties in Cape Girardeau.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, where served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111.
Survivors include a son, Randy Ressel of Jackson; a daughter, Peggy McLain of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Jerome Ressel of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Norma Blattel of Chaffee, Mo., and Marian Essner of Kelso, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Grant and Lauren Ressel of Jackson, and Kristen and John McLain of Cape Girardeau.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home with parish prayers at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary. A funeral mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial with military rites will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
