DEXTER, Mo. -- Alvis Haynes, 85, of Dexter died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Missouri Southern Healthcare.
He was born July 14, 1917, in Double Springs, Ala., son of William and Alma Tidwell Haynes. He and Esther Lou Winters were married Feb. 1, 1939, in Lynn, Ala.
Haynes was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, James Haynes of Essex, Mo., Wayne and Randy Haynes of Dexter, David Haynes of Bernie, Mo., Kenneth Haynes of Sikeston, Mo.; 11 daughters, Shirley Austin of Tempe, Ariz., Dicie Griggs of Mineral Point, Mo., Mary Waltman, Gwendolyn Mills, Kathy Smith, Terrie Lemons and Christine Haynes, all of Dexter, Jane Auglur of Florissant, Mo., Margaret Caldwell of Malden, Mo., Theresa Bostic and Patricia Spradling of Bloomfield, Mo.
Also surviving are four brothers, Albert Haynes of Eldridge, Ala., G.C. Haynes of Kokomo, Ind., Norman and Russell Haynes of St. Louis; five sisters, Jackie Harmon of St. Louis, Wanda Kelly of Sikeston, Maureen, Lois and Ruth Haynes, all of Houston, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sons, three grandchildren, and three brothers.
Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Essex Cemetery.
