Class reunions are a good way to keep in touch

To the editor:

Regarding the story "50th reunion renews old ties -- but not for the last time": I also attended Central High School's Class of 1952 reunion last month. I share Gene Munger's display of appreciation for the great job the committee did in planning our 50-year reunion. I try never to miss a reunion to meet and greet old friends from my childhood.

Those were good times we had at old CHS -- which, by the way, looked kind of deserted when I drove past her during this trip home. I did however extend my greetings to the old girl as I drove by, just as I did when I passed the Marquette Hotel on Broadway. Some people might say they're old, but not in my book. I remember them as they were back in 1952 when I graduated and left Cape Girardeau for military service.

A word to the younger folks: Don't miss a single class reunion. As you grow older you'll recall more and more of your childhood and old friends. Trust me, I've been there, and I cherish each and every memory of all the good times and a great hometown.

Now a word to Cape Girardeau. My how you've grown this past 50 years. Narrow streets and considerably more traffic than I recall, but you're still my hometown, and I'll never forget you. God bless.
