Misinformation used to obtain support for war

To the editor:

The Sept. 29 editorial in the Southeast Missourian was surely written by a neo-conservative tumblebug. It was an editorial filled with half-truths and even some downright lies, similar to what I would expect from former President Clinton.

President Bush deserves support only if the evidence presented to the American people is accurate and it can be proven that Saddam Hussein is a danger to our country. So far, we have been getting stories that appear to have the same credibility as "I didn't have sex with that woman."

The tumblebugs forget that the United States supported Saddam's war on Iran with advice, chemical weapons and other war materials. Our ambassador to Iraq assured Saddam that the United States wouldn't interfere if he invaded Kuwait. Iraq has violated 16 U.N. security resolutions, and Israel has violated 70. But you don't read or hear about the tumblebugs wanting to go to war with Israel over U.N. violations.

All this conservative asks is that President Bush and his fellow neo-conservatives just present facts, not lies.
