KOELTZTOWN, Mo. -- There were no survivors in the Saturday crash of a small plane in Osage County, southeast of Jefferson City, Mo., authorities said.
It was not known how many people were aboard, said Sgt. Paul Reinsch, a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Reinsch said authorities didn't know where the plane left from nor its destination.
The single-engine propeller plane crashed in a heavily wooded area near Koeltztown and burst into flames. Fire spread through the woods but was contained quickly, Reinsch said.
The crash was reported just before 4 p.m.
Witnesses told the patrol that the engine seemed to be revving high before the plane crashed.
The Federal Aviation Administration was expected to arrive at the scene today.
