SIKESTON, Mo. -- The funeral for William Charles Pruitt Sr. of Sikeston will be held at 11 a.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Dan Richardson will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Pruitt, 78, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 1, 1924, in St. Louis, son of Francis Edmond and Nora Diestelkamp Pruitt. He and Virginia Silvertooth were married March 9, 1946, in St. Louis.

Pruitt moved from St. Louis in 1971. He was a construction supervisor with Girardeau Contractors 10 years, and was a member of Vanduser Church of Christ.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, and the Rhineland, receiving three Bronze Stars.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William Pruitt Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother.
