Jean Brooks, a retired registered nurse, college instructor, health care educator and advocate, died April 24, 2002, of breast cancer, while living at Christian Health Care-West Park in Springfield, Mo.
She was 77 years old. Jean Brooks was born in Neosho, Mo. She lived in Jackson, Mo., Cape Girardeau, and then moved to Webster Groves, Mo., where she and her husband, Robert Brooks Sr., raised four children: Susan Brooks Sterner, Robert Brooks Jr., Geneva Brooks Melillo and Lawrence Brooks.
Jean received her RN and master's degrees in nursing from Washington University. She was a member of numerous organizations including the Missouri Nurses Association and YWCA.
At her request, her body has been donated to Washington University School of Medicine.
Jean was a loving mother and a tireless advocate for health care education and reform.
In lieu of flowers, her children suggest that donations be written to The Jean Brooks, RN, MSN, Scholarship and Employee Assistance Fund, in care of Christian Health Care-West Park, 3405 Mount Vernon Street, Springfield, Mo. 65302.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 1 p.m., at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 2315 Kingshighway 61 North, Cape Girardeau. Telephone 334-1909.
