Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Braun Sigmund of Cape Girardeau will be held Monday, July 15, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Gefford Lamprea will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2002. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Mrs. Sigmund, 90, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 1, 1911, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Charles W. and Anna Elizabeth Milde Braun. She married Dr. Joseph Francis Sigmund June 21, 1950, in Cape Girardeau. He died Aug. 13, 1958.
Mrs. Sigmund attended Southeast Missouri State University and received a bachelor of science in education in 1935. She did graduate work at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
She taught two years at Ste. Genevieve Public Schools in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and 39 years at Cape Girardeau public schools. The greater part of her teaching time was spent at Central Junior High School, where she retired in 1976. She also worked with family rental properties.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Council of Catholic Women. In her teaching years she was a member of Community Teachers Association, Missouri State Teachers Association and National Education Association.
During her college years on the SEMO campus she was a member of the Hesperian Literary Society, now known as Alpha Delta Pi.
Survivors include a niece, Cathy Banick and husband Michael Banick of Atlanta, Ga.; a great-nephew, Robert Banick, and great-niece, Christina Banick, both of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, BeBe Gentemann of O'Fallon, Mo.; and a large number of cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Jordan.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cathedral Masses, St. Mary's School or Notre Dame High School.
