New clinic offers convenience for veterans

It's easy to be critical of government and bureaucratic red tape. But when agencies work together, it's something to be congratulated.

Such is the case with the Missouri Veterans Home and the federally funded Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Since 1997, the clinic for veterans has operated at 1928 N. Kingshighway. But then officials with both the clinic and the home came up with the obvious solution: Move the clinic to the grounds of the veterans home, where it will be more convenient to many of its clients.

The new clinic cost $849,000 for the state to build, and the federal government is leasing it.

Certainly, if any segment of our society is owed convenient and reasonably priced medical services, it is the men and women who risked their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy. The new clinic should be a good thing for them and for taxpayers.
