97 percent don't need to submit to 3 percent

To the editor:

I would like to reply to recent comments that "under God" excludes other religious groups and that the court's ruling on the Pledge of Allegiance "was absolutely right."

I would like to ask those who voice these objections whether they have thought of the fact that God is mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, in the prayers at the inauguration of a president and in the prayers before each daily session of Congress.

In a survey taken recently, 97 percent of Americans said they want the wording "under God" kept in the pledge. The wording does not force anyone into any religion. If it's against a child's religious beliefs, there's no force applied.

Why should 97 percent of Americans submit to 3 percent?
