Don't wait until last minute to get parking permit

To the editor:

I can't begin to explain how much I disagree with the university's decision to have a parking lottery for students wishing to obtain preferred parking permits. I live two hours away from Cape Girardeau (approximately 115 miles). I mailed my payment and my application for parking last year as soon as I got the application. I later found out that I was the first person to be given a preferred permit last year. I think that it is hogwash to do this lottery. Those in St. Louis are getting the same crack at getting a preferred parking pass as those in Cape, and I am proof.

How many residents of the Cape Girardeau and Jackson area really live on campus and need preferred residential parking anyhow? Not many. Look at the statistics. This is all because of the people who just aren't on the ball and don't get the permits they want, then look for an excuse to complain about those of us who are on the ball and doing things as soon as possible and getting rewarded for it.
