Letter to the Editor

In days past, life was accepted just the way it was

To the editor:

When one reaches the ripe age of 96, the title of a sermon, "Things to Remember," can touch the heart and bring back many memories.

Dear to my heart are the precious and lasting memories of my mother as she tucked me into bed each night when I was a child.

Interesting enough, I recall early school days when my mother fixed a sack lunch to eat at recess. Small aluminum folding cups were used to get a drink of water from the cistern. I also recall running to the outdoor toilet, which was not close to the schoolhouse.

I often recall what fun it was to ride in the rumble seat of our Ford coupe at a time when a limousine was not heard of.

My memory takes me back to the exciting days when it was necessary to use an earphone when listening to the radio. What fun.

Those and countless more were the days when one was content to accept life the way it was.

Aside from the nostalgic bit, we now see many historic, beautiful and interesting events, along with the great progress that has been made over the years.

For how long I have this to enjoy, only the one above has the answer.
