Tennessee taxes are warning to Cape residents

To the editor:

This is in response to the article about Cape Girardeau wanting to ask voters for an increase in the city sales tax. I have lived in this area since moving from Fruitland in 1982. We have an 8.75 percent sales tax here, which is the highest that the state currently will let any city or county have in Tennessee.

I feel that the citizens of Cape really need to look long and hard at the sales-tax increase, because what will the politicians put on the taxpayers next? Our state politicians want to add a 2 percent state sales tax to balance our state budget. So look at the big picture. Do you want to end up like us with maybe 10.75 percent total sales tax? The state politicians are also wanting to pass a state income tax. So think about it, Cape,
