DONGOLA, Ill. -- C. Christian "Chris" Wuyster, 84, of Dongola and Laurel, Md., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel.
He was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Baltimore, Md., son of Cornelius C. and Mary Verstege Wuyster. He and Jeanette Dillow were married Dec. 23, 1943.
His parents moved to the United States from Holland. His father died when he was 3, forcing his mother to take a job with a doctor who later helped Wuyster attend Buckingham School, where he attended from age 11 until graduation.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II as one of a group of five to coordinate and acquire space to train meteorologists for the military. He moved to Laurel after being discharged in 1945.
He worked as budget analyst for the Veterans Administration, retiring in the early 1970s. He worked for H&R Block for 20 years, and then prepared taxes out of his home until 1997.
Wuyster was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Laurel for over 50 years and church treasurer for 22 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Laurel and since 1967 attended the Rotary Club of Anna-Jonesboro.
Survivors include his wife and two sisters-in-law, Marie Montgomery of Anna, Ill., and Murchie Hoffner of Dongola.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Hertenstein officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery with military honors by Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of Anna.
