Big urban centers can support arts and culture

To the editor:

I'm beginning to believe that those who want an art and culture center at the River Campus in Cape Girardeau can't do math. Here in Dallas, there are art and culture centers because I live among 5 million people. Chicago has art and culture centers because the Chicago metro area has about 5 million people.

If Southeast Missouri State University has an art and culture center, the rest of the nation will laugh. The River Campus can't compete with art and culture centers like those in Chicago, Dallas, New York and Los Angeles.

Those who want the River Campus need a reality check. If I were a student serious about studying art and culture, I would go to a large city, not SEMO.
