Shivelbine's, Rust get chamber recognition

When it comes to music and band instruments in this part of the country, one name instantly comes to mind: Shivelbine's. When it comes to newspapers in this part of the country, one name instantly comes to mind: Gary Rust.

Shivelbine's Music Store and Gary Rust were honored last week with the highest awards given at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner. In both cases, recognition was given to family enterprises that have always maintained excellence in products and services as their highest priorities.

There is scarcely anyone in Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois or northeastern Arkansas who ever played in a band -- school, municipal, rock 'n' roll, whatever -- who hasn't had some experience with Shivelbine's Music Store on Broadway.

And just down the street is the Southeast Missourian's main building, which also houses the corporate offices of Rust Communications, which has grown rapidly in the past few years to include 13 daily and 35 weekly newspapers in seven states.

Much of the success of both businesses has been the result of close-knit family involvement. This speaks well for the entrepreneur spirit and for the results that can be achieved through hard work and dedication to customers.

Congratulations to Shivelbine's and Rust for their well-deserved recognition.
