Central High School principal Michael Cowan asked parents of eighth- and ninth-grade students Tuesday to serve on a transition advisory committee to ensure a smooth transition to the new high school for their children.
There were sign-up sheets available at the meeting.
He said the eighth- and ninth-grade classes will make up 60 percent of the student body at the new high school and will be the only two classes to be simultaneously integrated into the high school.
About 200 parents attended the orientation and enrollment meeting at the Career Technology Center to learn about high school courses, grading scales and graduation requirements.
The parents formed small groups to discuss enrollment information with junior high and senior high school principals.
Students will receive the same information in their classes in the coming weeks.
He said if parents were unable to attend the meeting they should contact counselors at either the junior or senior high school to arrange individual meetings concerning their child's enrollment.
Parents interested in serving on the transition advisory committee should call Cowan at the high school.
