Letter to the Editor

Cuts not offered by governor or legislators

To the editor:

Gov. Bob Holden and the legislators in Jefferson City are up to their old tricks again. The Jan. 25 editorial was right on target.

As of this date, I have not read where even one of our state legislators has called for a tax reduction, a reduction in red tape or a reduction in the state bureaucracy. Tax and spend is the order of the day.

Here is an observation on politicians by Daniel Webster many years ago: "Now is the time that men work quietly in the fields, and women weep softly in the kitchen; the legislature is in session, and no man's property is safe." How appropriate for the Missouri executive and legislative Class of 2002.
