JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Another St. Louis lawmaker is leaving the House.
Democratic Rep. Maida Coleman resigned Monday from her 63rd District seat. Coleman is favored to win a special election Feb. 5 for the Senate vacancy created by the Nov. 5 death of Democrat Paula Carter.
Coleman, who served in the House only one year, said she resigned now to minimize the number of separate special elections needed in the House.
Veteran Democratic Rep. Louis Ford of St. Louis resigned last week. Ford's district, like Coleman's, is heavily Democratic. Also vacant is the St. Louis House seat formerly held by Harry Kennedy, a Democrat who wonelection last month to the state Senate.
