THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Elvis Joseph Gibbar, 78, of Thomasville, N.C. and formerly of Scott City, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, in Thomasville.
Born May 23, 1923, in Lithium, Mo., he was the son of Lemie and Lorene Henderson Gibbar.
Gibbar was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He then worked as a forklift operator for Motorola.
On Oct. 2, 1945, in Harrisburg, Ill., he was married to Dorothy Marie Nichols.
Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Valerie Hilligas of High Point, N.C.; six brothers, Kenny Gibbar of Jackson, Mo., George Gibbar of Crystal City, Mo., Lemie and Ray Gibbar, both of Scott City, Mo., Mike Gibbar of Commerce, Mo., Leon Gibbar of McClure, Ill.; three sisters, Dolores Gibbar, Margaret Hagan and Mary Swan, all of Cape Girardeau; and three granddaughters.
In addition to his parents and stepmother, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Ron Mason officiating.
Burial will follow in Lightner Cemetery.
