Letter to the Editor

Who comes first with children- Harry or Jesus?

To the editor:

It's about Harry Potter. There's really no debate to the subject in my eyes. But for those interested, there's a great book called "Harry Potter and the Bible" by Richard Abanes. He's done the research and does a really good fact-based comparison.

I have only this to ask of those who defend Harry Potter: Do your children love Jesus as much as they do Harry Potter? Do they know about Jesus and his life in the detail in which they are inhaling Harry Potter? Do they emulate Jesus in word, action and deed? Is Harry Potter a role model you would like your children to follow?

It's not just about Harry Potter. It's about priorities in your life. Any information is like a seed planted, and you shouldn't plant onions where you want roses to grow. What you put into your head goes to your heart and comes out the mouth. And if it doesn't glorify God, it's just not right. If your life was like a big shopping cart you fill with things you've chosen, in the end you'll face the cashier. Will your choices cost you?

Maybe the sooner we realize that the whole world is not about us and that we're here to serve and worship a mighty God and through the sacrifice of Jesus have been invited into the family, then we'll see our role as a family member and assume the associated responsibilities, settle in and eventually enjoy the perks that comes for being in this particular family.
