Seeking money for charity isn't exactly neighborly

To the editor:

It amazes and aggravates me when I receive a note in my mailbox from a neighbor asking me to support a favorite charity of the neighbor's choosing. Before a neighbor chooses to collect money this way for a cause, no matter how worthy, consider this:

Shouldn't the neighbor's first communication be to welcome the family to the neighborhood, or offer a holiday gift or greeting or just bother to introduce yourself? If the neighbor hasn't, then let the family choose its own charities.
