Cheerleaders, school board owe apology for effigy

To the editor:

I absolutely cannot believe that the Southeast Missourian would publish an article, much less a picture, about Central High School cheerleaders burning a figure representing another school. With all the bad things going on right now and the morals we try to instill in our children and then the school allows such nonsense to go on. Let's not let our kids wear thin straps or show their stomachs, but we will allow this kind of behavior. We try to keep the fights and vandalism down on that night, and it seems the newspaper is promoting it. I think this is showing the worst kind of school spirit. The cheerleaders as well as the school board owe Jackson and the rest of the public an apology.
