Letter to the Editor

Mosley's book enjoyed

To the editor:

Sometimes I wind up keeping the right things. Yesterday, while going through old letters and notes, I discovered a real treasure: a brief letter from Jean Bell Mosley.

Today, her thank-you message is as timely as when it arrived at my former residence. Postmarked April 22, 1960, the letter explains itself:

"Dear Jo Ann:

"Your review of 'Wide Meadows' will be one of my favorites, I know. It was splendidly done, and I liked so much your statement that I made my readers see, hear, smell, feel and taste, for those are the tests I apply to my writing, especially feel.

"Thank you for strolling through 'Wide Meadows' and writing such a lovely account of the trip.

"Cordially, Jean Bell Mosley"

Now, a new generation is reading and enjoying this book in series form each Tuesday in the Southeast Missourian. And some of us "oldsters" are re-reading Jean's early-day experiences as we walk again through her charming descriptions and anecdotes.
