Margaret M. Johnson, 81, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Hogue officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Mrs. Johnson was born June 15, 1920, at Lamar, Mo., daughter of Charles D. and Goldie Mae Chaffin Evans. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Goldie and Harvey Watts. She and James "Oscar" Estes were married Oct. 20, 1945. He passed away May 2, 1981. She and Paul L. Johnson were married Feb. 16, 1982.
Survivors include her husband; four nieces, Barbara Kay Steffens of Palm Springs, Calif., Katherine VanNatta of Oak Hills, Calif., Nancy Evans of Sedalia, Mo., Martha Ann Young of Cape Girardeau; three nephews, James Estes of St. Louis, Gary Estes of Cape Girardeau, Tom Miesner of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two grandsons, Dr. Paul Harriss Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., James Glenn Johnson of Denver, Colo.; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and a stepson, Paul Lewis Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson worked 52 years at Cape Beauty School, which was founded by her mother. She was a member of Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School in the adult and youth divisions, conducted weekly nursing home services, and originated the Stephen Ministry at Hobbs Chapel.
