Booth at fair misrepresents Libertarian views

To the editor:

I was at the SEMO District Fair Tuesday night and saw something disturbing. At the entrance of the Arena Building was a Libertarian Party stand with an adult and some teen-agers promoting the legalization of drugs. I am a Libertarian in philosophy, and I vote independently. I would like to clarify something. Libertarians believe that the drug war is not working. They do not promote drugs. Libertarians believe in individual choice by responsible adults, not using teen-agers to promote drug use. I have had several friends' lives ruined by drug use. The thought of using teen-agers to promote legalization of drugs disgusts me.

The individuals at this tent could do much more by promoting free economic trade and less government interference in the economic sector. The most disturbing thing about these so-called Libertarians is that this was occurring on the worst day of our nation's history. Please do not judge all Libertarians by the actions taken by these few people. They are, at best, very poor representatives of Libertarians everywhere.
