Thanks to water response team

Most of us love to be appreciated. Appreciation makes us feel happy and valued as individuals.

Appreciation makes a positive difference in our lives and encourages us and others to be better persons.

Even though appreciation is important, unfortunately, at times, we don't practice this behavior because we take simple things for granted until they are lost. Like, city water.

The other day, a 14-inch water main broke leaving the community without water for almost 24 hours. Without water, simple things like cooking, bathing and drinking had to be modified or put on hold for a while.

Many of us learned how to "boil" water. Some of us depended on the kindness of donors to provide bottled water.

A crew of approximately eight individuals worked for hours in less-than-ideal conditions to repair the broken water main. Dealing with mud and water levels up to their waists at times, they persevered until the repairs were completed and water service was restored to the community.

These individuals definitely deserve our appreciation!

They did more than just their job. They made a personal investment of time and effort for the benefit of the Cape Girardeau community.

Thank you, Alliance, Public Works, Fire Department, city management, and city public information. You did a really great job.

We appreciate you!

GARY HILL, Cape Girardeau
