THE PUBLIC MIND: TEACHER PRAISES STUDENT GENEROSITY; SEEKS BETTER WORLD

Dear Editor and Santa Claus:

I just had to let you know about my great Spanish students at Central High School this year. They have truly captured the spirit of Christmas and I am so proud of each of them! We adopted a family of six and my students have given generously of themselves - $134 to buy this family a Christmas tree, lights, ornaments, clothing and toys for five children and a mom, plus many generous donations by families. They were as excited about giving as the family was in receiving them. This was truly a rewarding and unforgettable experience for me because it just shows there is a lot to value "inside" of today's teenagers!

Santa, since my students have been so good, I would appreciate a few things for them. I wish we could give our kids a world at peace, a world free of prejudice and one that is healthy and clean. I would also like to see many parents who love one another and spend time with their kids - and if parents are divorced, give the right to love both parents PLEASE! Love and understanding is really needed by my kids. Also bring them some privacy and some praise like "nice job," "thanks for your help," and "you are a nice person." If you could squeeze in some acceptance that would be great - I have quite a few who could use this on the home front.

Well, Santa and Mr. Editor, these are special teenagers and they deserve everything I have asked for. Their generosity and caring stands as a real example for the "older generation." I am very proud of them and you should be also. Thanks for listening to me and as we say in room 216 - Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo.

Your grateful friend,

Mrs. Donna Ellis
