LETTERS: PRINTING VIEWS OF THOSE WHO DISAGREE

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

To the editor:

You are the type of newspaper that one can seldom find anywhere in this country. Thursday's paper published letters from hordes of people who disagree with your correct conservative beliefs.

On the other hand, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has strong left-wing beliefs, and it will not publish an all-facts correct letter upholding our fine U.S. senator, Kit Bond, who has been demonized by TV ads and articles in the Post-Dispatch by his lying opponent, Jay Nixon.

I wrote the Post a letter showing just how Bond's feelings were a major reason to vote for him and not for Nixon.

When the letter did not get published, I wrote and told the Post it should run my signed letter or cancel my subscription. As a retired journalist, I take several newspapers to sample views of others. The Post immediately called me back and said it would publish my letter and to keep subscribing. That was several weeks ago -- I study the Post every day -- and it has not kept its promise.

So now you and I know that if an event hurts the Post, it will be covered by lies. It's so nice to have an honest newspaper like the Southeast Missourian for me and all this area to read. Keep at it.
