LETTERS: LET US DECIDE HOW TO SPEND MONEY

To the editor:

Many applaud the government's assault on tobacco. They feel we are besting a terrible foe. They never stop to realize how many constitutional rights are violated, and the cost will be passed on to us, the taxpayers, we know.

The government says we must protect our children, do what is good for ourselves and keep our goals in sight.

But the true job of government is to uphold the Constitution and protect individual rights.

If the choices we make harm us, then that is our burden to bear. Give us back the money we pay in taxes, and let us take care of our children, choose our own lifestyle, retirement and health care.
