LETTERS: REST OF CAROL LEAVES HOPE FOR ETERNITY

To the editor:

Thank you for circulating again this year the special section of the Missourian, "An Old-Fashioned Christmas." The carols and Christmas legends, I'm sure, will bring joy to lots of homes and group meetings during the season. In that light, may I offer a suggestion for the beautiful song on page 27, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." Printing just the first three verses leaves the reader in terrible despair, but notice what happens in verses four and five:

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men."

Till, ringing, singing on its way, the world revolved from night to day

A voice, a chime, a chant sublime, of peace on earth, good will to men.

With a prayer for a little peace, here and there, now and then,
