LETTERS: JACKSON BOARD NEEDS TO HEAR FROM OPPONENTS

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

To the editor:

Jackson has plans to put West Lane through to Route D, making the traffic past West Lane Elementary, Orchard Elementary, the middle school and the junior high school even worse than it already is. The school board has not voiced any opposition to this, and board members we have contacted seem to be blowing smoke at us. If you get frustrated dropping off your children or picking them up now, just wait. It will just get worse.

The board of aldermen will meet Sept. 4 (Tuesday instead of Monday because of Labor Day). We need all interested parents there to show opposition to this absurd plan with no thought for the safety of our children and grandchildren. There are many children who walk to school, and this would put them at risk.

A petition was signed by 78 people and presented to the board of aldermen. We were told not to worry because "we don't have the money anyway." We all know how things get shoved through when no one is looking. Be there and let your voices be heard.
