LETTERS: CONSIDER INCREASE IN ASSESSMENT BEFORE VOTING

To the editor:

Whether you are renting an apartment or own your own home, real estate taxes will take their bite.

If you are renting, you already have or soon will get a rent increase to offset the change of assessed value owners of real property received this past May.

I own a very modest older home in Jackson. My notice of assessed value as of Jan. 1 shows an increase of $2,480 over the assessed value for 2000.

Based on last year's tax rate, I will pay $118.29 more in real-property taxes this year in December.

I encourage real-property owners to check your notice of change of assessed value of real property you received this past May before you vote on the 25-cent tax increase proposed for the Jackson School District.
