LETTERS: VO-TECH TRAINING CAME TO CAPE TOO LATE FOR SOME

To the editor:

Having just read the article about the good shape Cape Girardeau is in regarding a vo-tech school, I've got a few questions and comments regarding same. What took you so long? Having grown up in Cape during the 1940s, I'm sad to say Cape dragged its feet entirely too long. The main reason I left Cape after high school graduation was the fact there was nothing more for me there. Short of college, there wasn't a vo-tech school within miles and miles. So I entered the military with the hopes of learning a trade, which I did. That was in 1952. I was one of the lucky ones. I left home for bigger and better things, namely a profession and a good-paying job. I couldn't see spending the rest of my life in Cape working at a minimum-wage job.

Please don't get me wrong, Cape is a great town, and I love it. But it lacked the ability to provide vo-tech training for entirely too many years.
