LETTERS: CAPE DISTRICT STILL HAS NEEDS THAT MUST BE MET

To the editor:

I feel compelled to write this letter in response to the controversy over the firing of Randie Fidler as principal at Central High School. I am an employee of the school district. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Fidler. He has always treated me with the utmost respect.

What concerns me is that some people have forgotten that we are dealing with personalities. Board members volunteer their time. When things are going well, they receive all the praise. When things go badly, they suffer all the consequences. Board members have served this community well. They, along with former superintendent Dan Tallent and current superintendent Dan Steska, have a vision for our school district. They asked the community to support a bond issue to build new schools and upgrade older buildings. Everything they said they would do has been accomplished. We have much to be proud of with the new Career and Technology Center nearly finished and the new high school ready to begin.

My purpose for writing this letter is to remind everyone that because the board made an unpopular decision to some does not mean we should not explore the reasons for passing a bond issue. Board members will come and go, but the students and teachers will remain. We have real needs that still need to be addressed. I ask that we not allow personalities to stand in the way of doing what is best for our students and faculty.
