This past week, James Wente was installed as chairman of the Missouri Hospital Association. He is one of only a handful of hospital officials in Southeast Missouri to have served in this prestigious role.

This state association of 150 hospitals has taken an active role in medical and health issues since its formation in 1922.

The administrator of Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau was installed before an impressive crowd of 1,000 people at the group's annual convention.

Wente should provide keen insight as a state and national spokesman for Missouri's hospitals. He can draw on his vast experience as a hospital administrator and his many contributions to the Cape Girardeau community through such civic groups as the Lions club, the Cape Girardeau and Jackson chambers of commerce and the city's Investment Advisory Committee.

There are many pressing health care issues on the horizons that involve both private and government influences. Missouri's hospitals are fortunate to have Wente's sound leadership and fiscal expertise in their corner.
