WORKING TOGETHER TO PROMOTE PRIDE

A new coalition is focusing on increasing community pride in Cape Girardeau. The group includes representatives from 19 organizations.

It is good to see all these organizations sitting down together to focus on building community pride. A unified effort should reap more benefits down the road. Everyone's on the same page. Everyone's working toward joint goals. This certainly seems a recipe for success.

The coalition organized earlier this year and has been meeting monthly to formulate goals. A public hearing last night at the Show Me Center focused on such pressing issues as the new bridge exits, downtown Main Street program and the location of the federal building.

Coalition goals include such weighty and appropriate issues as crime reduction, beautification, increased tourism, economic development, historic preservation and neighborhood development. These aren't issues that will be resolved overnight. But with everyone working together, solutions are within the city's grasp. And that's something of which we can all be proud.
