This is the season for giving. But the Salvation Army and Toybox have found that contributions lagging this year. What's the reason? It could be unseasonable weather early on, or the fact people are rushing around so much.

Toybox Santas will deliver their gifts Tuesday evening. In the past two days, generous donations have helped fill the final 50 requests from families.

Toys still can be delivered to the Southeast Missourian offices in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, AAA Travel Agency, First National Bank, Mercantile Bank, Bank of America, Sanders True Value, Bank of Missouri, Southwestern Bell Wireless, Union Planters Bank, the ShopKo Court at West Park Mall, Alliance Bank, Commerce Bank, Toys R Us and Capaha Bank.

The Salvation Army is running about $7,500 behind last year's efforts. A short kettle season and lots of rain have hampered collections.

The Salvation Army uses the funds for helping those in need throughout the year. Donations can be sent to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 802, Cape Girardeau 63702, or dropped in a familiar red kettle.

Spread a little cheer. Toybox and the Salvation Army always need your help to ensure a bright Christmas for everyone.
