Deer Creek Christian Academy is one private school in Cape Girardeau that is on the grow. After only three years, this small school is ready to expand its enrollment with a larger facility. The school has purchased a two-acre site on Route W opposite Kenneth Drive.

Currently, about 15 students in first through seventh grades are enrolled along with two preschoolers. The school plans to increase to 80 students in the new facility. That's remarkable growth for a school that began in the basement of the founder's home.

Students attend classes for nine-week sessions followed by three-week vacations and are off classes in July. The school combines one-room school advantages with new technology. Students wear uniforms, which is pretty much the rule for other private schools in the region.

Deer Creek is just one of a number of private and parochial schools that continue to expand in the region.

The depth and breadth of area private schools underscores the importance of parental choice when it comes to educating their children.
