Holiday Community Open House Features Over 500 Unique Nativity Displays

The seventh annual “Nativities Around the World” event is scheduled for December 6th – December 8th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cape Girardeau. This free community event is the only one of its kind in the area and a great way to kick off the Christmas season. It has become a seasonal tradition for many families.

The event will take place

Friday December 6, 3pm – 7pm

Saturday December 7, 3pm – 7pm

And Sunday December 8, 3pm – 6:30pm

On Sunday, it will be followed by a Special Christmas Devotional broadcast via satellite from Salt Lake City featuring The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square beginning at 7pm. All are invited to attend.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is located at 1048 W. Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau.

This year we are pleased to announce that the event will feature new personal collections from individuals in the community, adding their own unique flavor and variety to the display.

The hundreds of nativities come from over 30 countries and show the great international nature of the nativity story throughout the world. It is amazing to see how each artist used mediums available to them--newspaper and tin, olive wood and porcelain, rough-hewn carvings and intricate needlework. From a child building with Legos to the creations by the finest artisans, all are personal expressions of their love of the reason for the season, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

This special event is a culmination of hundreds of hours of planning, preparation, and set up. If you would like to have your nativity/collection included in this event, please contact Claudia Mueller at 573-579-0711.

This is the seventh year of Nativities from Around the World. Everyone is welcome to attend this family-friendly, wheelchair-accessible event. It takes about 20 minutes to walk through the display with the option to browse longer if desired. There will also be a newly-released video of the nativity available for viewing. There is a self-guided scavenger hunt for those who like a challenge, enjoy a bit of fun, or wish to keep children entertained.

Again, it is free and open to the public.
