River Campus announces shows in year of transition

Some may have been disappointed to see the River Campus discontinue its touring shows, but the end of one era will usher in new opportunities.

Local university performing arts students, which are growing in number, will get the chance to put on more shows at the venue, many of which will be large-scale productions, which the university has proven it can handle.

The River Campus has added Broadway and symphony packages to the lineup to cater to the audiences who enjoy those genres.

The shows will include “Heathers: The Musical,” “Shrek: The Musical,” “Poulenc’s Gloria,” “Symphonic Pops with Symphonic Stars!” to showcase the musical talent of the university, along with shows such as “The Three Musketeers,” “The Wolves,” along with the traditional Fall for Dance, Spring into Dance and The Big Band Christmas Jukebox.

The Cape Girardeau region is fortunate to have such talent in our city, and instructors who know how to bring out the most of it. Some of the shows put on here are on par with professional outfits in much larger cities. We look forward to the shows ahead as the university continues to expand its offerings of musicals, theater, dance and music to the public.
