EBO MD acquired Cape Urgent Care and Family Medicine located in Cape Girardeau in April, upon Dr. Byron Glenn’s retirement.

New Madrid will soon have its steel mill back with new owner Magnitude 7 Metals, expecting to hire about 450 workers for the plant. The new aluminum smelter will be located at the site of the former Noranda Aluminum plant. The average salary for these jobs is expected to be about $64,000 annually. One line is expected to open in May and the second in November.

The Perryville Area Chamber of Commerce recently announced a new executive director. Jackie Wengert, who previously served as the director as late as 2004, replaced the outgoing executive director Emily Steele, who resigned March 26.

Bank of Missouri President John M. Thompson will retire later this year. Thompson, who was profiled by the Southeast Missourian recently, has been an active member of the community and served as a member of the SoutheastHEALTH executive board.

The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo announced its entertainment lineup for the annual event Aug. 8-11. The list of performers includes Chris Janson, Brett Young, Justin Moore and Travis Tritt.

The Esquire Theater on Broadway in Cape Girardeau could be in use again with action taken April 16 by the Cape Girardeau City Council that seeks redevelopment proposals and authorizes the city’s Tax Increment Financing Commission to help provide developers financial incentives to redevelop the historic property.

Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau will get an upgrade in the coming months with the Cape Girardeau City Council’s decision to spend $1 million on improvements. The field will be home to a new independent wood bat Prospect League team and is also used by Southeast Missouri State University’s baseball team, among other area teams.

The Missouri Delta Medical Center announced that Jason Schrumpf, FACHE, MBA, PT, president and CEO of Missouri Delta Medical Center, became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.

The Southeast Startup Pitch Competition will wrap up soon when the top five ideas submitted by students are presented at noon May 2 in Glenn Auditorium. The top three proposals will receive cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and $500.
