B Magazine Launches with Agents of Change

Print publishes six times a year

Each of the six print editions of B Magazine will have a theme. And so, it’s appropriate that the first edition with a new brand and mission be about agents of change.

Consider the two major medical centers in Cape Girardeau. Both have relatively new CEOs with impressive backgrounds, a passion for this community and big dreams.

Ken Bateman took the helm of SoutheastHEALTH at the end of 2014. Maryann Reese joined Saint Francis Healthcare System in 2015 as executive vice president and chief operating officer then was promoted to CEO in 2017. Both Bateman and Reese are very competitive. However, they understand the big picture and are not opposed to working together when possible. Some collaboration takes place now, and more is expected. The cover story this month takes a look at the evolving relationship between SoutheastHEALTH and Saint Francis.

Have you read the books by local author and businessman Stan Crader? Having written three fiction novels, Crader published his first nonfiction work in November, and it hits close to home. It’s a look at STIHL USA and some of its early leaders in the country. B Magazine recently interviewed Crader about his book, his investment in Southeast Missouri’s future leaders, and his business and life philosophies.

In other areas of change, the American economy is humming — in part supercharged by the recently signed tax cut law. In this edition of B Magazine, Congressman Jason Smith (R-Missouri) shares his perspective on why the new law matters.

Finally, one of the new features of B Magazine is the opportunity for businesses to share their own stories. You’ll see some of that in this month’s publication, with even more in coming editions. If you are interested in sharing your story, please let us know. You can send news tips, business briefs or feature ideas to news@bmagazine.io, or call publication editor Mia Pohlman at 573-388-3862.

Of course business news happens daily. So check out the brand new bmagazine.io where you can read stories found in the print edition, find links to business records that previously were printed in the magazine, and view photos from area events.
