Home Tour benefits Hope for One More grants

You'll have many opportunities to get out and explore this weekend. There are many activities to choose from.

One of those worthy of consideration is the home tour organized on behalf of the Hope House children's home in Jackson, which is associated with the Hope for One More organization.

Hope for One More was founded in 2010 by doctors Paul and Dawn Caruso. Among other things, it awards grants so children can participate in sports, musical and art activities, according to a recent story by Josh Hartwig. The organization also supports a "treasure chest" where parents can get clothes, car seats and furniture.

Called the Tours of Hope, Saturday's tour recruited five homeowners who are opening up their homes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for special tours.

All of the homes have unique characteristics. This event will be fun for those who enjoy history and home decorating.

The event is sponsored by First Missouri State Bank and Red Letter Communications.

Tickets are $25 and may be purchased online at facebook.com/hopeforonemore, or can be purchased at Area Properties Real Estate, First Missouri State Banks in Cape Girardeau and Jackson and Hope for One More at 118 N. Main St.

The weather should be nice to get out and explore this Saturday. Consider going on the tour and supporting a great organization that helps foster children in our area.

Ward 5 reminder

If you live in Cape Girardeau's Ward 5 and are interested in filling the remainder of Bob Fox's term, you have until Monday to let the city know of your interest.

The city council will appoint a person on May 7, and the interim councilperson will serve until a special election is held on Aug. 7 or Nov. 6, depending on whether there are enough candidates to force a primary.

Council members decided during a recent study session Monday to take applications for two weeks. The April 30 deadline will give the council time to review the applications.
