On Good Friday we remember Jesus' sacrifice on the cross

Today is the day Christians somberly recognize as the first part of the Easter Holiday.

Good Friday is the day to remember the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. It was an exhausting grueling death; a crown of thorns, nails through flesh. It was the day that the Son of God was sacrificed, the day the perfect one placed the sin of humanity on his shoulders, the day a deity died so all could live. But Christians also know of the good news that Sunday brings, the resurrection of The Christ.

If you're so inclined, there are many Good Friday events listed in the semoevents calendar, including at Cape Bible Chapel, Westminster Presbyterian Church at 6 p.m.; and Marble Hill United Methodist Church, Fairview General Baptist Church, Grace United Methodist Church and Jackson First Baptist Church, all with services beginning at 7.

Please also see the semoevents calendar for special Easter services, including sunrise services.

Today, we remember the meaning of Good Friday, with the understanding that Sunday is coming.
