Southeast partnership on drone education is a smart decision

Unmanned aircraft systems and drones continue to develop across many industries. From farming to media to first-responder missions, these systems can provide a valuable service.

Southeast Missouri State University recently announced a partnership with Sinclair Community College. Jim Peterson, assistant professor in Southeast’s department of polytechnic studies, called the Dayton, Ohio-based community college “a leader” in aircraft systems initiatives.

The two institutions, according to a story by Mark Bliss, will look into ways to coordinate their academic programs, research and development.

“This partnership between Southeast and Sinclair, combined with the strong local business relationships each institution cultivates, will harness this emerging market and leverage regional development and growth,” Crystal Jones, director of the Southeast Economic and Business Engagement Center, said.

We applaud the university for its innovative approach to education and finding the best partners. Drones likely will continue to be an important technology, and first-class training is a must. It appears this is a good step in that direction.
