SoutheastHEALTH Salutes Volunteers at Recognition Dinner

The Southeast Hospital Auxiliary honored volunteers Martin and Margaret Needels with the Ilena Aslin Service Award at the group’s annual recognition dinner. Volunteer Jeanne Hale Poe received the Margaret Foster Roberts Award.

Volunteers, who reached service milestones, also were recognized at the event held recently at the Osage Centre. Theme of the dinner was “We Appreciate You – a Bushel and a Peck.”

The dollar value of volunteer hours over the past year was $592,144 representing 27,480 hours of service donated by volunteers and auxilians.

Martin and Margaret Needels began volunteering in 2008. She has donated close to 2.500 hours volunteering in the Surgical Waiting Room, the Gift Shop and at the Lobby Desk in addition to helping with special events and sales for the Auxiliary. Needels is currently treasurer of the SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary and in that capacity serves on the Auxiliary Scholarship Endowment Committee and chairs the Budget Committee.

Martin Needels has donated almost 1,800 hours of volunteer service in Patient Registration and the Surgical Waiting Room. He also shares his time on multiple days a week.

Margaret Foster Roberts Award

Poe, a volunteer since 1991, has donated over 5,200 hours of her time and talents. Over the years Poe has helped raise thousands of dollars for the Auxiliary and served many years on the Fundraising Committee. She has chaired many special sales such as book sales and the annual poinsettia sale. Through the years, Poe has been involved annually in 15 to 20 special sales. As a volunteer, Poe works at the Lobby Desk and has also volunteered in the Gift Shop and with the baby photo service which the Auxiliary sponsored for several years.

The dinner featured a SoutheastHEALTH Update by President and CEO Ken Bateman and remarks of appreciation by Frank Kinder, vice chairman of the SoutheastHEALTH Board. Volunteers reaching service milestones were also saluted at the event.
